Resources for Students and Alumni

The Career Design & Exploration team focuses on intentional interactions with students and alumni in order to support their Self-Discovery, Exploration, Experience, and Transition so that they can confidently step into their future.

Self-Discovery 

Resume - Formal summary that outlines your professional background, including education, work experiences, research, certifications, and accomplishments. This should be tailored towards thge role that you are applying for, highlighting your passions, and relevant experiences. 

    • VMock - Smart Resume Platform used to assist you with creating your resume as well as analyze your current resume by providing instant personalized feedback. 

Cover Letter - A short personalized letter you typically send/submit to an employer with your resume to explain why you're interested in the role you are applying for at the specific company and why you would be a great fit. It's your chance to tell your story, highlight key experiences, and show your passion for the role. 

Career Advising & Assessment - Not sure what career path is best suited for you? Or need assistance with discovering your passions? Our career team is equipped with assessments and resources to guide you, such as Career Clusters, Gallup Strengths, Passion Profile Quiz, and more. 

Exploration

In this pathway, the CDE team will assist you with your Job/Internship/Experience Search Process, making Career Connections, and more. We will share tips and tricks when it comes to job/internship search while utilizing platforms like Handshake and LinkedIn. Our office offers Mock Interview appointment types where a member of our team will pull questions from the industry you are applying to and practice what your interview will look like; virtual, in person, group, phone call, etc. 

Experience

Internships/Co-Op/Externship - Provide students with opportunities to cultivate their skillset, network in the professional field, develop their workplace identity, and gain valuable experience while integrating knowledge and theory learned in the classroom.

    • Students have the opportunity to submit their Experience in the Handshake platform to receive academic credit for their experience, or submit their experience to appear on their final transcript.

On-Campus Jobs - Our office encourages students to apply to an on campus position. This is a great way for students to gain applicable work experience, get further involved, and so much more! 

Volunteer - Our office assists students with connecting with volunteer events and opportunities to further their experience.

Transition

The JU Career Design & Exploration team is here to assist students as they not only navigate their next steps in their life after graduation, but also as alumni. The CDE team will assist with reviewing Grad School material such as Decision Letters and Letters of Intent based on the content written. (For assistance with grammar please visit the JU Writing Center). CDE will also assist with navigating your Full Time Job Offers by utilizing other pathway resources and insight on salary negotiation.
