The University's Original CharterArts. Sciences. Commerce. Law.

СÀ¶ÊÓƵ was founded as a private, non-profit institution in 1934 by Judge William Porter, and chartered to teach arts, sciences, commerce, and law. In 90 years, the institution has grown from a small junior college to ranked among the top universities in the south. Over the years, we have served students from all 50 states, more than 100 countries, and have more than 30,000 alumni worldwide. Throughout our years of growth, we have expanded our reach from business to healthcare, public policy to marine science, and after almost 90 years, we have finally fulfilled our charter to teach law.

The mission of the СÀ¶ÊÓƵ College of Law is to provide quality legal education focused on experiential learning and community partnerships, especially in the service of Jacksonville, Florida, and beyond. Our vision was to place the law school in the heart of downtown Jacksonville — a short walk from state and federal courthouses, surrounded by prominent legal organizations and countless members of the local legal community. Our approach was to create a law school firmly integrated into the legal community, uniquely positioned to offer our students meaningful experiences in practice and opportunities for mentorship from the bar, both planned and spontaneous.

СÀ¶ÊÓƵCollege of Law: Building a Legacy

In 2024, СÀ¶ÊÓƵ embarked on a journey to establish its law school campus where the institution was founded in downtown Jacksonville, Florida. In one of the largest historic adaptive re-use renovation projects in recent years, the Jacksonville University College of Law created a physical space for its campus that reflected its values in legal education.

After an exhaustive search, the University landed on the 115-year-old former Atlantic National Bank building, once the tallest building in Florida. The renovation honored the building’s history while transforming it into a modern learning community that comes to life as law students, faculty, staff and the local legal community collaborate in state-of-the-art classrooms and vibrant common spaces. The law school sits in the heart of the legal community, steps from the state and federal courthouses, the U.S. and state attorneys and public defender offices, the Office of General Counsel for the city, legal aid clinics, as well as the greatest concentration of private law firms corporate law departments in the region.

Founded with the vision of integrating law students into the legal profession from the moment they begin their studies, students learn the law in the classroom while simultaneously witnessing the law in practice. The only law school in Florida whose location enables this immersive approach to legal education, JU College of Law prepares law students who are highly capable, adaptable, ethically grounded, and prepared for the profession.
